Standard Chartered has changed its 2025 year-end price target for Ethereum from $10,000 to $4,000, citing structural challenges within the Ethereum ecosystem. The bank’s analysts attribute this adjustment to the impact of Layer 2 solutions, particularly Coinbase’s Base network, which has reduced Ethereum’s ( ETH ) market capitalization by an estimated $50 billion. Layer 2 networks like Base were developed to enhance Ethereum’s scalability by reducing transaction fees and congestion. However, Standard Chartered’s research indicates that these solutions may be diverting revenue away from the main Ethereum network. Base, for instance, channels its profits to Coinbase , potentially diminishing Ethereum’s overall market share. The bank also forecasts a decline in the ETH/BTC ratio, predicting it will reach 0.015 by the end of 2027, a level not seen since 2017. This suggests that Ethereum may underperform relative to Bitcoin in the coming years. Despite these concerns, Ethereum continues to lead in several key areas, including decentralized finance, stablecoins , and tokenized assets . Yet, its dominance has been gradually decreasing. Standard Chartered noted that without proactive measures from the Ethereum Foundation, such as implementing taxes on Layer 2 solutions, this decline is likely to persist. The bank acknowledged that Ethereum’s price could still rise from its current level of approximately $1,900, especially if Bitcoin experiences significant gains. However, they cautioned that Ethereum’s relative underperformance may continue in the medium term.

Canary Capital has added layer-1 blockchain token Sui to its list of potential ETFs. Canary Capital reportedly filed documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to list and trade shares for a spot exchange-traded product tracking layer-1 cryptocurrency Sui. ( SUI ). The S-1 filing, also called registration of securities, came after Canary registered a Sui trust in Delaware on March 7 ahead of formal paperwork submitted to the SEC. A potential spot SUI ETF expands the firm’s existing basket of bids for crypto products on Wall Street. Canaray Capital also filed for Dogecoin ( DOGE ), Litecoin ( LTC ), Solana ( SOL ), and ( XRP ) ETF. Furthermore, Canary recently closed a deal with World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance protocol backed by the 45th and 47th U.S. President, Donald Trump. As part of the partnership, WLFI will onboard Sui to its token reserves and consider deeper integrations with the layer-1 ecosystem. Since its launch five years ago, Solana has become one of the top-performing layer-1 blockchains given its combination of high-speed with low-cost transactions. Solana’s ability to handle massive transaction volumes with minimal fees has made it a preferred network for traders seeking quick execution and high liquidity. According to data from Mercuryo, Tether USDT trading on Solana has seen increased volatility in early 2025 as traders respoisition their approach and strategy to capitalize on changing market trends. Notably, Pump.fun’s trading volume has surpassed Ethereum over 24-hour periods on many occasions over the past year. This can be seen as a clear sign of Solana’s role in the meme coin space.

Earlier in the day, Aptos shared a cryptic post on X, featuring the logo of Pump.Fun accompanied by the phrase ‘Aptos pilled’. Naturally, this has led to speculation of Pump.Fun potentially migrating to the Aptos blockchain, or at the very least, some kind of a collaboration between the two. While there’s no concrete evidence to confirm anything, it’s worth noting that platforms similar to Pump.Fun, such as Emojicoin, have already been developed on Aptos, indicating that the ecosystem supports such initiatives. Emojicoin enables users to create, trade, and swap emoji-tickered meme coins, adding a layer of creativity to the meme coin space. On the other hand, Pump.Fun is a popular platform that allows users to create and trade meme tokens, primarily operating on the Solana blockchain. It has already established itself as a popular choice, though it has seen better days as of late. Starting from mid-February toward today, the platform’s graduation rate (the percentage of tokens that progress from incubation to full tradeability on Solana decentralized exchanges) has fallen below a measly 1%. This points to a huge decrease in the success of newly launched memecoins on the platform. In addition, Pump.Fun’s revenue has been declining since it reached a four-month low. Today, the platform’s protocol fee revenue stood at just slightly below $800,000, which is a big decline compared to late January when it was over $15 million. This could indicate a waning interest in Solana-based meme coins or just meme coins in general. Technically speaking, there are some grounds on why Pump.Fun would utilize Aptos. For instance, multi-chain expansion is becoming more common, as projects seek to tap into different liquidity pools and communities. Furthermore, Solana is already filled with meme coin projects and on Aptos, the competition is much lower. So will this be one big nothingburger or is there some merit to the rumors of collaboration or even migration? Overall, it’s hard to say but considering Pump.Fun’s current state, it makes sense for something to happen.
