U.S. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce: The SEC is waiting for the chairman's appointment, then will formulate a crypto agenda
U.S. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce stated today during a virtual speech at the Federalist Society panel meeting that it is "premature" for the SEC to start formulating a cryptocurrency regulatory agenda without approval from the Senate and under an acting chair.
Currently, Mark Uyeda has taken over as Acting Chair, but the Senate is expected to vote soon on former U.S. SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins' nomination for chairman.
Hester Peirce said: "Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda has done very well and the agenda has been effective - we have never stopped working, but we estimate that if Paul Atkins is confirmed as chairman, he will take office quickly and begin setting an agenda." Peirce added that the SEC is trying to "figure out" how to move forward with digital asset rules.
