It’s a new era for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission under President Donald Trump as the agency voluntarily dismissed its appeal on Feb. 19 in a crypto rulemaking case. While the SEC’s voluntary dismissal of its own effort to reverse a court ruling blocking a contentious broker-dealer rule that would have given the agency jurisdiction over decentralized crypto protocols represented a huge win for the digital assets industry, the regulator is yet to dismiss its appeal in the high-profile Ripple lawsuit. Fox Business Journalist Eleanor Terrett has delved into the potential reason why the agency has not yet ended the XRP-centered legal battle. SEC Is Prioritizing Cases With Imminent Deadlines In a Feb. 19 X post citing anonymous legal sources, Eleanor Terrett revealed that the Securities and Exchange Commission has been pausing enforcement cases with looming court deadlines, which is partly why the regulator has not yet abandoned its appeal in the Ripple case. Notably, Ripple requested a due date of Apr. 16 for its opening brief in the cross-appeal against the SEC. The securities watchdog submitted its own opening brief on Jan. 15 — just five days before Trump’s inauguration and the exit of former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler. Following Gensler’s departure, the new SEC leadership has signaled the commission will adopt a more collaborative approach to policing the crypto market. Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda has already launched a crypto-focused task force for formulating clear rules, helmed by pro-crypto commissioner Hester Peirce. As ZyCrypto reported earlier, President Trump is pushing forward with his vision to make the U.S. the “crypto capital of the world,” stating on Wednesday that he had effectively ended the Biden administration’s animosity toward Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, the SEC’s progress on enforcement actions unleashed during Gensler’s regime has stalled, including cases against Binance and Coinbase. Fox Business suggested that the SEC might be waiting for Trump’s pick, Paul Atkins, to assume office. “It’s possible SEC leadership is expecting @realDonaldTrump’s pick for chair Paul Atkins to be on his way to getting confirmed by that time,” Terrett posited. “In the interim, the crypto task force, Congress, and the Presidential Working Group on Digital Assets are presumably working to fill the regulatory gaps that led to these lawsuits being brought in the first place.” Besides easing its stance on lawsuits, the SEC, under Uyeda’s leadership, is acknowledging exchange-traded funds (ETFs) based on altcoins such as Ripple-linked XRP.

In addition, Canaan held a total of 1,319 BTC as of Jan. 31.

Bitcoin’s bull run is going to continue as fundamental stars start to align. That’s according to analysts at research and brokerage firm Bernstein, who said on Monday that investors should be prepared for the next leg of the bull rally in Bitcoin and equities related to the alpha crypto. Bitcoin Has More Room To Run Bernstein analysts Gautam Chhugani, Mahika Sapra, and Sanskar Chindalia believe that the current bull market started in Q4 of 2023 following the anticipation of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund approval in the United States, driving the price of BTC from $25,000 levels to past $46,000 by the time the funds started trading on Jan. 11, 2024. According to Bernstein, the massive inflows into the spot ETFs created the next tailwind. Their unprecedented success was not priced in, and Bitcoin skyrocketed to a record high of about $74,000 before the bulls took a temporary break. Finally, the victory of pro-crypto Donald Trump in the November presidential election further spurred the next huge bullish impulse following his campaign promises to make the U.S. the world’s crypto capital and establish a national Bitcoin stockpile. At the time, Bitcoin hit its historic high of $108,786 on Trump’s swearing-in day. “The next leg of the Bitcoin bull market is loading up with a confluence of several positive catalysts,” the analysts wrote. They think that the Crypto Task Force, led by Trump’s AI and crypto Czar David Sacks, will deliver the National Bitcoin Reserve with the directive of the president. Other Bitcoin Tailwinds That Could Drive Prices Higher In 2025 Bernstein strategists further added that Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund purchasing Bitcoin via the exchange-traded funds was bullish for the foremost crypto. Moreover, the new Trump regime recently announced a sovereign wealth fund (SWF). They also highlighted Strategy’s (formerly MicroStrategy) recent $742 million BTC purchase, taking its total stash to 478,740 BTC, worth around $45 billion at current market prices. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s repeal of SAB 121, a move that now allows crypto custody by banks, and strong year-to-date Bitcoin ETF inflows of nearly $5 billion are other catalysts noted by Bernstein. “The confluence of adoption by banks, institutional investors, corporates and eventually sovereigns (directly or via sovereign funds) is positioning Bitcoin as the clear challenger to gold,” the report said. “With Bitcoin at $2 trillion market value vs. $18 trillion market value of proven gold reserves, we see asymmetric upside for Bitcoin.” The Bernstein analysts have previously forecasted that the Bitcoin price would be valued at $200,000 per coin by the end of this year.

He noted that BTC has peaked and remained in a tight trading range, which "doesn't look natural." He added that despite strong institutional and retail accumulation, including U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs and Strategy buying more BTC than is mined daily, BTC's price remains stagnant. Mow argued that significant selling pressure is counteracting this demand. He also pointed to FTX Exchange's ongoing creditor repayments, which are based on BTC'S 2022 price of around $20,000, as a possible factor adding to selling pressure.
