Gutter Cat Gang is a non-fungible token (NFT) project on the Ethereum blockchain. It launched on June 8, 2021, with 3,000 unique digital cat avatars, known as Gutter Cats. Each token acts as a membership pass to an online and offline community, offering access to events, merchandise, and decision-making in the project’s future.

The NFTs were originally minted directly through the project’s website and later became available on secondary marketplaces like OpenSea. Every Gutter Cat is generated from a mix of 123 traits, including fur, background, eyes, and clothing. These traits influence the rarity and market value of each cat.

Ownership of a Gutter Cat NFT includes both creative and commercial rights, allowing holders to use their avatar in personal or business projects. The Gutter Cat Gang universe has since expanded to include Gutter Rats, Gutter Dogs, and Gutter Pigeons, offering additional access levels and community features.

How Gutter Cat Gang Works

The Gutter Cat Gang ecosystem is based on a simple model: owning an NFT equals community membership. Each token is stored on the Ethereum blockchain, and once all 3,000 cats were minted, the only way to join was through purchasing one on a secondary market. There was no bonding curve or dynamic pricing at launch, which means all NFTs were sold at a fixed price of 0.07 ETH, excluding gas fees. This pricing model was designed to avoid artificial scarcity and FOMO (fear of missing out).

The community structure is a key part of how the project operates. Holders participate in group decisions, vote on community proposals, and influence the direction of future developments. One example is Gutter Gives, the project’s philanthropic initiative. Community members propose causes, and the team allocates funds to selected non-profits. Gutter Cat Gang also partnered with PUMA and sponsored a team in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), gaining real-world visibility. In March 2024, a new team acquired the project, which could signal changes in strategy, branding, and expansion.

In addition to NFTs, the project announced a utility token called GANG, launching on ApeChain in March 2025. The team clarified the token is "useless and valueless" and exists purely for entertainment purposes. This language was likely chosen to avoid securities regulation, a common concern in the crypto space.
