U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent: no one thinks tariffs on China can be sustained
On April 14, local time, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent departed for a visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the first day after the end of the meeting with the Argentine President Millet, Besant said in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg, the current level of tariffs on China is unsustainable, the future will reach a “major agreement”. He also said that negotiations with some allied countries on reciprocal U.S. tariffs are moving forward at a rapid pace, and implied that other countries should enter into trade talks with the U.S. as soon as possible. In the interview, Besant responded to the current U.S. tariffs on China by saying that the current tariff numbers are very high and are not an issue that can be laughed off, and that “I don't think anyone thinks they're sustainable, no one wants them to stay up.” He said, “There's a big deal to be done at some point in the future.”
