The U.S. government is expected to complete a comprehensive audit of its Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency holdings on April 5th
PANews reported on April 1st, according to Cryptobriefing, the U.S. Treasury Department and other federal agencies are expected to disclose their holdings of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on April 5th in compliance with recent directives from President Trump. It will soon be clarified whether digital assets previously mentioned by Trump, such as XRP, SOL, and ADA, will be included in the national digital asset reserves. David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc., stated that the audit results may reveal the reasons for Bitcoin's recent price trends.
On March 6th, Trump issued an executive order requiring the establishment of strategic Bitcoin reserves and digital asset reserves. According to a presidential document published on March 11th, all federal agencies must report their holdings of Bitcoin and other digital assets to the Secretary of Treasury within 30 days after this order is issued. The Secretary was also instructed to set up two offices to manage government-held digital assets. The strategic Bitcoin reserve will store Bitcoins obtained through criminal or civil forfeiture without selling them.
According to data tracked by Arkham Intelligence, the U.S government currently holds about 198012 Bitcoins worth approximately $16 billion USD. David Sacks who heads cryptocurrency affairs at White House said that over past decade US Government has held around 400000 bitcoins through civil & criminal forfeitures but half of it i.e., around195000 bitcoins have been sold off yielding $366 million USD revenue . If they had retained all those bitcoins then its value today would exceed $17 billion USD.
