Will Telegram Integration Save Pi Network Price or Is xAI Linked TON Crypto A Better Hold?

While Pi Network (PI crypto) has been integrated with Telegram for nearly a week, it hasn’t helped to break PI out of its ongoing downtrend. It has been down nearly 30% in the past seven days and has been down by -70% since the beginning of March. The unrelenting sell pressure for PI is leading even its most ardent supporters to begin questioning the project. On the other hand, the Telegram-backed Toncoin (TON) crypto is up over 4% in the past week, with Telegram recently integrating Elon Musk’s xAI Grok chatbot directly into the messenger app.

Pi Network (PI): Can Telegram Integration Reverse Course For The Struggling Crypto?

Pi Network (PI) is down over 11% in the past 24 hours, while Toncoin (TON) is only down 0.4% in the same time frame. PI is struggling to reverse its downward momentum, which has seen it drop over 77% from its all-time high of $2.6 on February 27.

Even with the official announcement from Telegram founder Pavel Durov, that Pi Network has been integrated directly into Telegram’s crypto wallet. The news was initially met with much celebration from the PI community, which has since died down as its price continues to slide.

Pavel Durov, now a free man in Dubai after being granted access to his passport from French authorities, took to Telegram to post notable statistics about the platform’s user base. He said;

“Telegram now has significantly over 1 billion monthly active users, becoming the second most popular messaging app in the world (excluding the China-specific WeChat.) User engagement is also rising, and our revenue growth has exploded. We are just getting started.”

With these bullish figures laid out, it should be seen as a huge catalyst for Pi Network now being able to reach one billion Telegram users. This could potentially lead to a huge pool of new investors, with some PI fans online calling it a “historic step toward mass adoption of decentralized finance.”

X has moved to expand the reach of its xAI Grok chatbot by partnering with Telegram on a new integration. Now, if you’re subscribed to both Telegram Premium and X Premium, you’ll be able to chat with xAI’s Grok AI chatbot within the Telegram app.

In December 2024, xAI announced that it had raised an additional $6 billion in Series C funding, taking its valuation to $18 billion. Elon’s AI project has rapidly scaled up its capacity, with its huge “Colossus” AI data center in Memphis now housing around 200,000 Nvidia H100 units.

xAI has also just purchased X for $33 billion, effectively changing hands from one Elon Musk-led company to another. With Musk’s investment and push into the AI sector, integrating Grok with Telegram opens it up to Telegram’s 1 billion monthly users.

That puts it in competition with other AI projects on capacity, and X has also added a range of ways for all users to engage with its AI chatbot within the app, whether they’re premium users or not.

The Telegram-backed Toncoin (TON) has responded fairly well to the news, up 4.3% in the past seven days and nearly 1% over the last 24 hours.

TON is an established token backed by Telegram and with a flourishing ecosystem. Right now, it would seem Toncoin is a safer bet than the newer Pi Network (PI), which cannot seem to break its ongoing downtrend.
