Watcher Guru, a leading crypto news platform, has confirmed that its X account was hacked early on March 21, 2025. The breach resulted in unauthorized posts spreading across its X, Telegram, Facebook, and Discord accounts.
Watcher Guru has since regained control of its account and removed all unauthorized posts. The team announced they are investigating the breach and working with X’s support team. In a post on X , Watcher Guru stated:
“Our X account has been hacked, and the previous post (now deleted) was posted by a hacker. We have 2FA enabled and have taken extreme measures to avoid hacks.”
The compromised post, which appeared at approximately 2:05 AM UTC, falsely stated that SWIFT was on the verge of partnering with Ripple to integrate XRP into its cross-border payment system. The unauthorized post was also shared on Watcher Guru’s Telegram, Facebook, and Discord channels due to an automated bot that reposts content from the X account to other platforms.
The Watcher Guru team clarified that this information was not legitimate and originated from the hacker who had gained control of the account.
The team suspects the hack may be linked to a suspicious X link sent to their Telegram account on March 5. The unusual formatting of the link, which included a “token” query string, raised concerns about a social engineering attempt. The team stated that it reported issue to X’s head of cybersecurity but did not receive a response.
While the exact source and method of the hack remain unconfirmed, Watcher Guru has pledged to implement measures to prevent future incidents and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
This incident follows a growing trend of hacks targeting accounts of influential entities on social media platforms. In February 2025, l uxury brand Dior’s Instagram was hacked to promote a fake Solana-based meme coin. The fraudulent token briefly hit a $280,000 market cap before collapsing after the post was removed.
