- Milei denies promotion of $LIBRA Cryptocurrency
- Impact of $LIBRA lower than reported
- Milei advocates transparency and rapid action
Argentine President Javier Milei recently found himself at the center of a controversy involving fraud allegations and calls for his impeachment. The allegations arose after he shared information about the $LIBRA token, which many interpreted as a promotion. During an interview with Jonatan Viale on TN’s “¿La Ves?”, Milei clarified your position.
“I didn’t promote, I shared,” Milei said in the interview. “I did it because I’m a technology enthusiast,” he explained, reiterating his passion for technological innovations and his optimism about the digital future.
The controversy, according to the president, did not have the impact claimed by many, affecting a very limited number of Argentines. “Most of the investors were Chinese and Americans,” Milei pointed out, highlighting that the repercussion was inflated in relation to the real number of people involved.
Regarding the dynamics of information sharing, Milei mentioned his quickness in getting involved with new crypto projects, as was the case with $LIBRA. “My tweet was sent three minutes after the coin was created because I am a fan of these innovations,” he said, reaffirming his interest in new technologies and his habit of sharing relevant discoveries.
He also touched on the allegations that large numbers were affected, refuting the figures cited. “The claim that 44.000 people were impacted is exaggerated. The real number is closer to 5.000 at most,” Milei argued. He stressed that the investors were mostly experienced traders who were aware of the risks involved.
The interview also touched on her interaction with Hayden Davis, who proposed a new financing structure during a meeting at the Casa Rosada. “I spread the word to help Argentinians without access to traditional financing,” Milei commented, revealing the motivation behind her first tweet on the subject.
When asked about the decision to remove the tweet, Milei explained that it was a reaction to the negative feedback and confusion it generated. “I never deleted the tweet, I just hid it to avoid further misunderstandings,” she clarified, denying any government involvement in the episode.
In conclusion, the president warned that any contrary ruling by the justice system will have serious consequences. “If government involvement is proven, there will be consequences,” Milei warned, making clear his position on government accountability and transparency.
