OpenAI Responds to DeepSeek with Deep Research: AI Battle Intensifies
In response to DeepSeek’s growing prominence in the AI space, OpenAI has launched Deep Research, an AI agent integrated with ChatGPT that promises to revolutionize the way we search the web. OpenAI announced the launch of Deep Research on February 2.
“Today we are launching deep research in ChatGPT, a new agent capability that conducts multi-step web searches for complex tasks. It accomplishes in tens of minutes what would take a human many hours,” he announced.
The Deep Research wizard is capable of scouring the web, analyzing data, and compiling comprehensive reports in a matter of minutes. This new tool, available to ChatGPT Pro users, is designed to independently perform in-depth web research, analyzing data, and compiling detailed reports.
“Deep Research is OpenAI’s next agent that can work for you independently — you give it a prompt and ChatGPT will find, analyze, and synthesize hundreds of online sources to create a comprehensive report at the level of a research analyst. Powered by a version of OpenAI’s upcoming o3 model that is optimized for web browsing and data analysis, it leverages reasoning to search, interpret, and analyze vast amounts of text, images, and PDFs on the internet, pivoting as needed in response to the information it finds.” highlighted .
The launch of Deep Research comes at a time when DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has won standing out in the technology and financial markets. With its open-source R1 model, DeepSeek has challenged OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has led many to question the future of artificial intelligence.
With Deep Research, OpenAI is not only responding to the hype surrounding DeepSeek, but is also redefining the future of web search. By automating complex and time-consuming tasks, Deep Research allows users to focus on more strategic and creative activities.
It is worth remembering that, recently, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, recognized DeepSeek’s achievement, but assured that his company would launch even more advanced models to maintain its leadership in the AI sector. Altman commented that the DeepSeek R1 is “impressive, especially for what they can deliver for the price”, but reinforced that OpenAI will continue to invest in offering superior solutions.
