Odaily Planet Daily News: Matt Huang, co-founder of crypto venture capital firm Paradigm, announced that the company will donate $1.25 million to support Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm's legal defense under U.S. prosecution.
Huang wrote on X on Wednesday: "The prosecutor's case threatens to hold software developers criminally responsible for the bad behavior of third parties, which will have a chilling effect on cryptocurrency and other fields. We must fight side by side with Storm."
Storm co-founded the Ethereum-based cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash with Roman Semenov. Both were charged by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2023 with suspected money laundering-related crimes.
Prosecutors said Storm "intentionally assisted" in laundering more than $1 billion in illegal funds on cryptocurrency mixers, including funds related to the North Korean cybercrime group Lazarus. The founders of Tornado Cash each face up to 45 years in prison.
