Australia's ASIC updates digital asset guidance draft and seeks public feedback
On December 4, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) released "Consultation Paper 381: Updating INFO 225 Digital Asset Guidance" (CP 381), proposing an updated draft to provide clearer legal guidance for digital assets. The new version includes 13 practical cases, covering definitions of digital asset financial products, licensing issues of packaged tokens and stablecoins, and transition arrangements.
ASIC emphasized that it will continue to protect consumer rights through guidance, license management, and law enforcement measures. The public can submit feedback before February 28, 2025. The final version of the guidance document is expected to be published in mid-2025.
