According to Bloomberg, the leading candidate for the post of head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been determined. It is Paul Atkins, with whom the team of newly elected US President Donald Trump has held detailed negotiations.

Other candidates include current SEC Commissioner Mark Ueda, former Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Heath Tarbert and Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP partner Robert Stebbins.

However, according to the publication's sources, Paul Atkins is currently the leading candidate. Unlike the other contenders, Atkins has long been an active supporter of cryptocurrencies and fintech startups in the blockchain field.

In addition, he has testified before Congress on numerous occasions on issues related to ways to restructure the SEC's operations and reduce the agency's over-regulation of the crypto market.

Let us recall that Paul Atkins held the position of SEC commissioner from the Republican Party in the office of then President George W. Bush. Information that he is being considered as the main contender was also confirmed by FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett, relying on her sources in Trump's team.
