Cryptocurrency Became Key Payment Method in iGaming
SOFTSWISS analysts found that cryptocurrency is now a central payment method in the iGaming industry, driving growth in emerging markets and strengthening its role in the sector’s future.
SOFTSWISS, a major global provider of iGaming solutions, prepared an industry report highlighting key trends for 2025. The document describes 15 significant trends across such areas as tech solutions, regulations, marketing, and business development within iGaming.
The report pays special attention to payment technologies. In this context, open banking and cryptocurrency payment solutions are among next year’s most impactful trends.
Open banking allows iGaming platforms to directly connect to users’ bank accounts, simplifying financial processes, eliminating the need for intermediaries, reducing fees, and enhancing security. It also enables the creation of more efficient and personalized payment solutions.
Crypto payments are cited in the report as a primary payment method in the iGaming industry. According to the SOFTSWISS survey, mentioned in the document, 58% of industry professionals recognize crypto as a key growth driver for iGaming projects in emerging markets, further strengthening its role in the sector’s future.
Alexander Pisarevsky, Head of Marketing and PR at CryptoProcessing.com , noted that cryptocurrency addresses essential operational challenges in the iGaming industry, providing global reach, low fees, and protection against chargeback fraud. Transaction costs drop from the standard 3.5% for traditional systems to 1%, which, along with other factors, increases the profitability of iGaming platform operators.
In H1 2024, one in five bets in the iGaming sector was made using crypto, with just over half of these transactions in Bitcoin.
