This Altcoin’s User Count Will Surpass Ethereum’s in Two Months
A surprise altcoin could soon surpass Ethereum in user numbers, according to Onchain data.
According to a report by cryptocurrency analytics firm CryptoQuant, The Open Network (TON) is on track to surpass Ethereum (ETH) in user numbers by the end of this year.
With the rapid growth in its user base, TON is expected to surpass ETH around December 20, based on current trends.
As of now, Ethereum has around 137 million users, while TON has reached an impressive 112 million users. Over the past month, TON has attracted an average of 500,000 new users daily. If this pace continues, TON could surpass Ethereum in total holders within the next two months.
Despite this rapid rise, CryptoQuant analysts have highlighted two key factors that could impact the forecast:
- Potential Slowdown in TON Growth: While TON has experienced significant growth recently, a slowdown is possible. A lower growth estimate calculated with minus one standard deviation suggests that the transition date could be postponed to February 3, 2025 if the growth rate slows.
- Continued Growth in Ethereum Users: While Ethereum’s growth rate has remained relatively flat in recent data, it continues to gain new users. An increase in ETH’s owner base could impact the timeline, potentially delaying TON’s overtaking point.
The rapid expansion of TON’s user base reflects the growing adoption of The Open Network, a project initially developed by the Telegram team. Analysts at CryptoQuant believe that it is “only a matter of time” before TON surpasses Ethereum in user numbers.
