BIS: There may be risks in the transformation of traditional financial institutions to tokenization
According to a report from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), major financial institutions are experimenting with tokenized deposits to improve settlement efficiency and programmability. However, there may be risks associated with the transition from traditional finance to tokenization, including potential governance and legal framework issues, as well as credit, liquidity, custody, and operational risks. These challenges may be different from those faced by traditional market infrastructure, and therefore require a comprehensive assessment by central banks. Of course, tokenization also has many benefits, including reducing transaction costs and speeding up transaction speeds, but governance, legal, and liquidity risks are the focus of central banks' attention on tokenized assets.
