Axelar promotes TON cross-chain interconnection and builds a new interoperability ecosystem
This collaboration brings unprecedented expansion opportunities and large-scale application potential to the TON ecosystem.
The Axelar Foundation and the TON Foundation recently announced that TON will integrate Axelar’s Mobius Development Stack (MDS) as a cross-chain interoperability platform, marking an important step towards supporting cross-chain interoperability for the first time. This decision was made after a comprehensive evaluation of multiple cross-chain solutions, aiming to provide the TON ecosystem with seamless connectivity to other blockchains and create new opportunities for large-scale applications.
Axelar MDS is fully programmable and permissionless, allowing any project to freely build connections and combine with any blockchain or off-chain resources. The TON Foundation examined multiple cross-chain platforms and ultimately selected Axelar MDS as an open interoperability platform. This commitment by Axelar is highly consistent with TON’s philosophy and makes it a leader in connecting diverse blockchains. As TON’s new interoperability platform, Axelar MDS will serve as a consensus point to avoid liquidity fragmentation and user confusion caused by multiple cross-chain asset versions. Other bridging solutions can be connected freely, but the solutions provided by Axelar MDS, such as Interchain Token Service (ITS), are not limited to cross-chain bridging.
According to official news, TON will connect 68 blockchains through Axelar MDS, including EVM-compatible networks, Cosmos, and Polkadot. From now on, TON's decentralized applications will be able to transfer cross-chain assets with MDS-supported blockchain networks, avoid liquidity dispersion problems, and provide users with a unified cross-chain experience.
Anthony Tsivarev, Director of Ecosystem Development at the TON Foundation, said: "The TON community attaches great importance to the network's high-speed performance, decentralized infrastructure, and seamless user experience," Axelar MDS is an ideal choice for TON's interoperability layer: it is an open, developer-friendly technology stack that provides secure one-click integration, making it easier to build applications across chains. "This integration will also prevent assets from being isolated on different chains, further reducing user confusion and promoting the scalability of the TON ecosystem.
For TON developers, there are nearly 950 million active users on Telegram. Through Mini App, these massive users can conveniently use various services on the TON blockchain without leaving the Telegram application. Recently, Telegram-based mini-games such as Hamster Kombat and Notcoin have attracted millions of users who earn crypto tokens issued on TON through games. These use cases show the potential for cross-chain interoperability.
Axelar MDS’ secure and seamless interoperability layer will open new doors for developers in the TON community, who have made significant progress on innovative projects such as Mini Apps and community tokens. Cross-chain integration will further expand the scope of these projects and promote liquidity and developer activity on the TON blockchain.
The rapid growth of the TON ecosystem has also been confirmed by the market. Since its integration with Telegram in September 2023, TON’s TVL has surged from $16.5 million to $750.9 million, an increase of 4451%, further demonstrating the huge market potential brought by TON’s integration with Telegram.
In addition, the TON Foundation also announced the upcoming launch of TON Station, a new game distribution platform that will focus on Web3 games and plans to become a SocialFi platform that provides seasonal content, token farming and other user rewards. TON Station is being developed in collaboration with Web3 gaming projects such as Superverse and Sidus Heroes, and is committed to injecting more vitality into the TON ecosystem.
Georgios Vlachos, co-founder of the Axelar Protocol and director of the Axelar Foundation, commented: "Innovative platforms like the TON blockchain are ideal for Axelar MDS. We are excited about the projects built by developers on TON and look forward to connecting to MDS so that developers can open them to Web3 users and assets."
Axelar will connect to TON through the Interchain Amplifier, a toolkit designed for developers that securely connects and abstracts the protocol layer between blockchains to the smart contract layer.
With the addition of Axelar, the TON ecosystem will enter a new era of greater openness and interconnectivity, and applications in Web3 will also take full advantage of these advances to pave the way for large-scale applications.
