Canary Capital files Litecoin ETF application with SEC
Canary Capital has officially filed an application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a Litecoin Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF).
This move represents an effort to provide institutional investors with regulated exposure to Litecoin (CRYPTO:LTC), one of the major cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.
The proposed ETF aims to offer a new investment vehicle for those looking to gain indirect access to Litecoin without needing to hold the asset directly.
According to the filing, the ETF would track the performance of Litecoin by holding the asset and allowing investors to benefit from price movements while avoiding the complexities of crypto custody.
Canary Capital's decision to pursue a Litecoin ETF follows recent trends where similar applications for Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) have been gaining traction, with some products already approved.
This suggests that the market is becoming more receptive to traditional financial products linked to major cryptocurrencies.
Analysts see the introduction of a Litecoin ETF as an opportunity to broaden the range of crypto investment options for institutional and retail investors.
The application is currently under review by the SEC, which will evaluate the proposal’s adherence to regulatory standards, especially regarding transparency, security, and investor protection.
If approved, Canary Capital's ETF would join the growing list of crypto-related funds aiming to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the emerging digital asset sector.
While the market awaits a decision, the filing is seen as a significant step for Litecoin, which has often been overshadowed by Bitcoin and Ethereum in the ETF conversation.
At the time of writing, the Litecoin (LTC) price was $71.56.
