Hackers compromise Discord channels of 5 crypto firms in a week

During the past seven days, five crypto firms got their discord channels hacked. The crypto firm’s Witness Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Zksync, and Orderly Network were attacked by hackers between the 24th and 30th of August. 

Witness Chain, which is a blockchain – based DePIN validation project became the 5th target of hackers. The discord channel of witness chain was hacked today, on 30th August through fake links. Pankaj Agarwal is the core contributor warned the channel members through his X account. His warning was also getting dubious spam pointing towards towards the suspicious X account for the recovery process.

An hour later, Agarwal informed us that “The server has been recovered and fixed!”

The discord channels of 4 other crypto platforms were hacked earlier

The channels of Polygon, Avalanche, Zksync, and Orderly Network got hacked on August 24, 25, and 29th. All these channels were compromised in the same way, that is, by using links to hoax schemes. 

Polygon Discord channel was hacked on 24th August with the use of phishing links. Chief Security Officer Mehta Gupta warned the member not to click any links for possible hack for further notice. A user of this channel also lost $150,000 as the bait to these links.

Within 48 hours after Polygon’s incident, Avalanche and zkSync channels were also compromised by similar fake links shared by the hackers.

A member of Avalache shared a  screenshot on his tweet “Avax discord looking sus…disabled chat in all channels and an announcement about claiming Avax from the foundation.” An hour later Zksync got the discord channel hacked the same way as Avalanche.

However, the concerned teams of these platforms acted fast to recover their channels and have done so successfully.
