Accordingly, the hacker who took over the Instagram account promoted a memecoin called GRIMACE, which was issued on the Solana (SOL) network.
The hacker wrote in his post, “GRIMACE! A McDonald's experiment on Solana.”
After the hacker's post, GRIMACE's market value quickly rose from $100,000 to $25 million.
After it was discovered that McDonald's Instagram account was hacked, the price crashed and its market value dropped significantly.
After the attack, the hacker bragged about the hack on the McDonald's page and shared that he earned a total of $700,000.
“Sorry buddy, you got scammed. Thanks for the $700,000 Solana,” the hacker said.
Apology Message Arrived!
McDonald's has not made an official statement, but a company official who spoke to The Us Sun apologized for what happened.
“We are aware of the isolated incident affecting our social media account. We have resolved the issue on the account. We apologize to our followers for the offensive language shared during this time,” the official said.
The GRIMACE price experienced a huge increase and reached $0.0250, but after the hack was realized, the price crashed at the same speed.
