JusticeDAO has raised about $2.3 million in legal defense funds for Tornado Cash developers
JusticeDAO, an advocacy group aimed at raising funds for the legal defense of those who have been arrested, has raised over 654 Ethereum, worth $2.3 million at the time of writing, through a fundraising campaign on the decentralized platform Juicebox, with the help of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm and developer Alexey Pertsev. The fund has also raised 70 ETH through the JusticeDAO page. Supporters of the cryptocurrency community claim that creating means to protect financial privacy, such as through cryptocurrency mixers, is not a crime. However, regulators disagree.
The fund includes a large donation from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who is also a privacy advocate and has published numerous papers and proposed many suggestions for enhancing Ethereum's privacy.
Despite the help of the cryptocurrency community, Tornado Cash's founder still faces serious charges.
