Former US President Trump found guilty in hush money trial
Former US President Donald J. Trump has been convicted of at least one felony in a criminal case involving hush money payments to a pornographic actress before the 2016 election. He is the first US president to be declared a felon, and this stain will follow him as he seeks to be re-elected as president. Prosecutors in the trial described Mr. Trump as having committed fraud in 34 counts of falsifying business records, saying that he deceived the American people by concealing the true purpose of payments made to his former fixer, Michael D. Cohen. They said that the records disguised these payments as ordinary legal fees, when in fact Mr. Trump was repaying Cohen for a $130,000 hush money agreement with pornographic actress Stormy Daniels to silence her claims about a sexual relationship with Mr. Trump.
