Sequoia Capital has led a $4 million seed funding round for Claim, a platform that combines a rewards app and social network. The app is currently in an invite-only beta and is focused on university and college students in Boston. Claim allows users to earn cash back, exchange rewards, and redeem them together with friends. The startup was founded by Sam Obletz and Tap Stephenson, who met as roommates at Yale and reunited in business school at Harvard. The company plans to use the funding to hire new talent and grow its team, as well as to focus on testing and learning from an engineering perspective before expanding into new markets.
