Sotheby’s first auction of Bitcoin NFT series sold for about $450,000
Sotheby's auctioned for the first time a "inscription" created using the Bitcoin blockchain Ordinals protocol (from a pixelated collection called "BitcoinShrooms"), which sold for about $450,000, five times the highest estimate. The auction, which ended on Wednesday, consisted of three images created by an artist using the pseudonym Shroomtoshi. According to a spokesperson for the auction house, the three items received a total of 148 bids, with more than two-thirds of bidders being new buyers for Sotheby's.
