U.S. Department of Justice responds to CZ travel restriction complaint, prosecutors may seek statutory maximum sentence of ten years
On November 26th, the US Department of Justice responded to CZ's defense team's statement regarding his "brief" sentence and lack of motive to escape in the latest court document. The government made it clear that according to the criminal guidance principles, CZ could be sentenced to a maximum of 18 months in prison, and prosecutors can seek the statutory maximum sentence of up to ten years.
The document stated that although CZ has family ties and has never been imprisoned, the punishment he faces will have a significant impact on him. Based on this, the US government believes that the measures proposed to restrict CZ's travel during the guilty plea and sentencing period are reasonable and necessary, aimed at ensuring that CZ can take legal responsibility within the United States and reducing his potential escape risk.
